2012 Merrill Cellars Syrah

> Lookup on Cellar Tracker

The 2012 Merrill Syrah is a dark garnet colored Rhone varietal the nose shows black fruit, anise and clove.  The odor is quite earthy and pleasant.   The fruit is restrained which starts out tart then layers of acid and tannins finish this off.  This a lovely Syrah save for heavier foods for a perfect match.

2012 Merrill Cellars Cotes du Rogue

> Lookup on Cellar Tracker

The Cotes blend from Merrill is always special.  This vintage is lovely in the glass with a ruby color.  The nose shows the oak barrels, pencil shavings and nutty caramel. The fruit is a sweet reminding you of strawberry but offset with a great balance of acid and tannins. This wine has a real Yum factor and is both well-crafted and tasty. The best Cotes du Rogue yet.

2012 Merrill Cellars Tempranillo

> Lookup on Cellar Tracker

This Tempranillo has dark red color with a nose of dark plum and currant with a hint of figs.  The mouth feel is medium.  The fruit is forward and sweet then acidic with a tannic white pepper finish.  This wine is rich and smooth.  It sits wonderfully on the palate, it will be hard to keep your glass from being empty.

Why is the wine gone?

2011 Merrill Cellars Merrilltage

> Lookup on Cellar Tracker

This is the first Merrilltage that I know of a spicy red blend. This wine gives the appearance of a lighter ruby color with a nose of dark berries, smoke, and esters. The palate reveals a medium bodied blend with a tart fruit and lingering tannin. The wine is well balanced and quite quaffable. This should go well with both lighter fare as well as pork, chicken.
