Tuesday, April 09, 20132011 Merrill Cellars Syrah Reserve
This is a dark ruby Syrah from Merrill this year. The nose is a dark fruit, rough cut English
tea, clove, caramel, floral and tobacco.
The mouth feel is very full with a good fruit and caramel in a layered
profile. The finish is tannic and long
with white pepper and slightly bitter.
This wine has a great yum factor with complexity and legs that should
cellar well for the next 5 years. Let this wine breath for a bit to get 92 points
now what will be in 2018?

Tuesday, April 09, 20132011 Merrill Cellars Chardonnay Reserve
This Chardonnay is summer gold colored. The nose is complex and light with citrus, a
touch of green apple and vanilla wafer.
Our palates show a fuller bodied Chardonnay with a sweet peach and stone
fruit leading the way. The middle is
outstanding, layered and smooth with an overall acidic finish. This is one of
the better Oregon Chardonnays we had in the last few years.

This white blend of Rhone varietals is wheat colored with a
honey, melon and acid on the nose. The
wine is not overly sweet with melon flavors and an acidic middle. The ending is soft and light. This should be a good summer wine for light

Tuesday, March 12, 20132011 Schultz Mission Viognier
It’s nice to come into lunch and have a wine waiting for
review and then having a lunch special that matched perfectly is just that much
more of a treat. This straw colored white wine has a serene nose of pears,
stone fruit and acid. The mouth feel is
light to medium with a sweet fruit then a smooth well balanced middle to an
acidic long finish. This is an excellent
Viognier, well made, tasting wonderful now and should be added to your summer
drinking list.

This wine has a cranberry color and is slightly opaque. The nose is slightly loamy with pie cherry, a
kiss of oak and caramel. This is a light bodied Pinot Noir with a restrained
fruit and mid palate acidic touch. The
finish if held tongue is a lingering tannin very mild but slightly bitter. This is a lighter style pinot that you may
find enjoyable with light fare and snacks.
We did.

This is a straw colored Chardonnay made from Deer Creek
grapes by Linda Donovan of Pallet Winery.
The nose is a peach and citrus.
The palate is an acid fruit start with a tapering finish that sits on
the pallet well. This wine needs to both
breath and be slightly warmer to really shine do not serve too cold. The wine was lovely with crackers and hummus
and will be a joy on summer evenings.

This sherry whose name means liquid gold was enjoyed at
the Dinner with the Geeks this last Friday.

a spicy and heat on the palate. Is not
an amontillado but is very tasty.

Tuesday, January 22, 20132011 Pebblestone Cellars Pinot Gris, Ellis Vineyard
This
review is long overdue, this Bear Creek Valley winemaker’s Pinot Gris. It won Best of Show from Ted and myself in a
blind tasting at for a Taste of Harry and David. It took home a double gold from World of Wine
this year. I’ve had it multiple times
and always just going through the bottle without writing the tasting note. So here it is at last. The wine is clear silvery yellow color with a
nose of green apple, grapefruit, and citric aromas. The palates shows a clean clear crisp taste
that follows the nose perfectly with a lovely balance of acid and minerality on
the finish. This is a great summer
drinking wine as well as wonderful pairing wine for food. Pebblestone Cellars and their Ellis Vineyard
produce a great Pinot Gris year in and year out but this may be their best
effort yet.

Saturday, January 19, 20132006 Bendock Estate Pinot Noir
This wine is from Illinois Valley area of the Rogue Valley Appellation
originating in the Windridge Vineyard. This
is an unfiltered Pinot with light red plum color and is slightly cloudy as
unfiltered wines tend to be. The pinot
shows a loamy nose, berries, oak with a touch of barnyard that resolves
nicely. The palate shows and nice
raspberry flavor, acidic middle with a medium mouth feel. The finish is very long with delightful
tannins but you need to hold the wine on the palate and wait for it. It's is a solid little Pinot that has aged
well and is quite tasty.

Score: 88
