McMenamins Edgefield Winery

Back from up North with a short note about McMenamins Edgefield Winery

If you’ve never stayed at a McMenamins in Oregon you really must take some time stay at one.  In McMinnville they have redone an old hotel in the middle of town there which is right in the center of the Pinot region.  The estate at Edgefield in Troutdale East of Portland on the Columbia River is really a crown jewel of the group.  It has a par 3, 3 club golf course, a movie theater, Brewery, Distillery, and the Edgefield Winery in the basement of the main building.  There are great restaurants, bars, vineyards, spa, and much more.  I worked my way through tasting the current releases.  Twenty-three different wines, 8 Reds, 8 Whites, 2 Roses, 1 Sparkling, 1 Ice Wine and 3 red port style desserts.

I tasted them all and brought home some for formal tastings, These all penciled out better than 86 point on tasting but could all go higher when formally tasted:

2008 Merlot
2008 Black Rabbit Red, (Cab Sauv, Merlot blend with touches of other varietals)
2009 Syrah
2009 Pinot Noir Blanc (blush style Pinot)
2009 Chardonnay, (this is a Un-Oaked Chardonnay)
1994 LBV Fireside Zinfandel (Red Dessert)
2004 Fireside Syrah (Red Dessert)
2006 Fireside Zinfandel

Here they are soon to be tasted, only have about 20 in front of them but we’ll get at them in 2012.
