2011 Merrill Cellars Merrilltage

> Lookup on Cellar Tracker

This is the first Merrilltage that I know of a spicy red blend. This wine gives the appearance of a lighter ruby color with a nose of dark berries, smoke, and esters. The palate reveals a medium bodied blend with a tart fruit and lingering tannin. The wine is well balanced and quite quaffable. This should go well with both lighter fare as well as pork, chicken.

2012 Merrill Cellars Viognier

> Lookup on Cellar Tracker

This Viognier from Merrill Cellars is a light straw color wine with a nose of fresh pears, citrus, and cardamom. The mouth feel of wine is medium with a sweet fruit leading to a tart acidic middle. The finish is soft and subtle but lasting.  Let this wine warm up from being chilled for best results.  This is one to add to your table.

2009 Rendarrio Syrah

> Lookup on Cellar Tracker

This Syrah from the Central Coast is a dark and inky red, keep this off the white carpet.  The nose of this wine reminds you of a Cote Rotie with bit of barnyard, black olives, and a touch musty.  The palate shows a heavy wine with deep earthy fruit with a bitter middle and long tannic finish.  This is a powerful wine maybe a bit much for those who look for a softer Syrah.  It may become a better wine with even more age.

This Santa Lucia Highlands Chardonnay is golden with a nose of green apple, citrus, and a touch of butter.  The mouth feel is medium with a tart fruit and acidic finish.  The wine has a nice mineral content and is refreshing.  This should blend well with food, white sauces, buttery seafood, lighter pasta, and pesto.

This Cabernet from Caprice is dark red with a wonderful nose of dark smoky black fruit, vanilla and smoked meat.  The palate shows a full bodied wine with a big fruit leading to an acidic and still quite tannic finish.  This will improve with some bottle aging over the next couple of years.

2011 Elk Cove Vineyards La Sirene Pinot Noir

> Lookup on Cellar Tracker

The Elk Cove Vineyards is just a short distance from Beaverton and is worth a visit if you are up that way.  This Pinot might best be described as a cuvée.  The color is a light ruby and is translucent with a nose of soft raspberry, citrus, and a slight mint.  The palate shows a medium bodied Pinot with a delicious fruit leading to an acidic and tannic finish.  A really wonderful Oregon Pinot that should go for about 5 years in your cellar.

This Pinot comes from Whistling Ridge Vineyard in the Ribbon Ridge region of the Willamette.  It's produced and bottled by Matello in McMinnville, Oregon. This wine is very light colored cranberry slightly red tinged with a nose of raspberry, strawberry, and black olive.  Don't let the light color fool you the wine has loads of flavor.  It starts out with a light to medium body then a sweetish tart fruit.  The middle is acidic and flavorful with a tannic finish that is numbing and long lasting.
